MARKO MARKOV
Born in 1926.
Marko Markov is one of a handful of artists today who still paint in the tradition of the Old Bulgarian masters of the brush.
He grew up in the village of Gaytanzi, in northwestern Bulgaria.
For most of his life he has been living and working on the road, in all corners of his homeland. Today, as a grandfather and a great-grandfather, Marko is back in his birthplace where he continues to paint actively.
Since his childhood Markov's prime interest has been landscape painting. After graduating from the Agricultural academy in Sofia, Marko pursued his passion for the arts. His debut solo exhibition in 1958 sparked enormous interest in the young artist and paved the way for a remarkable career.
Since then Marko has held eight one-man exhibitions in Bulgaria, as well as two in Nicosia, Cyprus.
His famous colorful oil paintings have traveled in general exhibitions around the Balkans in Romania, Serbia, Greece, and Russia.
Markov's art is part of numerous private and public collections in galleries, diplomatic missions, national museums, and public spaces.
