TONYA GORANOVA
Born in 1949.
An accomplished painter, illustrator, and graphic artist, Tonya works in cooperation with prestigious Bulgarian, Japanese, English, German, and American publishing houses. She has illustrated over 150 books.
Throughout her long career, Tonya has taken part in international biennial exhibitions and general art shows in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, USA, Germany, Russia, Romania, and Serbia. Tonya is the recipient of over 20 prestigious national and international awards. She has also been nominated twice (in 1994 and 1996) for the Andersen International Award. Her name is in the List of Honor of IBBY.
Tonya's intimate romantic landscapes mesmerize with a quiet use of color, delicate strokes, and an ingenious take on light and shadow. They tempt those who choose to perceive beyond the cliches and experience a timeless look at life. Tonya enjoys working with a variety of media, specifically watercolor and oil on canvas. She also creates remarkable oil paintings on wooden pieces, pieces that are centuries old.
Tonya's work resides in the collection of the National Art Gallery in Bulgaria, as well as in private collections in Mexico, USA, Japan, Germany, Canada, Holland, France, and Greece.
