SLAV NEDEV

Slav Nedev was born in Sofia in 1967.
Since the beginning of the 1990's the young artist has created several series of works, among which stand out "The Ordeals of the Soul" (1994), "The Remains" (1995-1996), "Water Prints" (1996).

Recently Slav has delved into the ever-changing relationship "human-nature" through his "Post-Urban Visions" series. In these works, the artist sees the cityscape in a post-urban state where the human race is extinct and life (as nature) regains its realm. This is a story of life winning the battle against reason.
In his latest creation, the project "Biotope" (2008), he attempts to visualize the idea of a "city" made out of trash containers through a large 3D installation.

His earlier works, created 1993-2007, derive mostly from the artist's inner life. The emerging situations and personages belong to the bizarre world of myths and dreams, out of which they spontaneously spring to life. Slav Nedev's expressionist brush depicts these distorted and often disproportioned creatures, seemingly taken by surprise by the fact of their own existence, funny and strange in an indifferent world.
